QNT Expands Its Community Health Vending Machine
Qutekcak Native Tribe’s Community Health Vending Machine continues to grow.
After seeing strong community use since its launch, QNT has expanded and updated the supplies available in the machine to meet an even broader range of everyday health and wellness needs.
The goal remains the same: make useful health resources easier to access, privately and without unnecessary barriers.
But if you haven't looked inside the machine lately, you may be surprised by just how much is available.
More Than a Harm-Reduction Resource
Harm reduction and prevention remain important parts of the vending machine, but the machine has grown into a much broader community health resource.
The updated selection includes products supporting sexual health, HIV testing, respiratory health, first aid, medication safety, menstrual health, smoking cessation, personal hygiene, digestive health, and everyday wellness.
Community members can find products such as OraQuick HIV Self-Test kits, safer-sex supplies including non-latex options, first-aid and wound-care supplies, menstrual hygiene products, disposable masks, tissues, medication-safety products, and other prevention resources.
The updated machine also includes a variety of everyday health products, including aspirin and pain-relief products, Coricidin HBP, Robitussin, Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Flu, Vitamin D, nasal and saline products, Lactaid/lactase digestive support, Epsom salts, and other wellness supplies.
Nicorette nicotine-replacement products have also been added, providing an accessible option for individuals who are working to reduce or stop nicotine use.
And the selection will continue to evolve.
Why Add Everyday Health Products?
Because community health isn't limited to one issue.
Sometimes someone needs an HIV self-test.
Sometimes they need a wound-care item.
Sometimes they need menstrual supplies.
Sometimes they are trying to quit smoking.
And sometimes they simply have a headache, cough, upset stomach, or cold and need access to a basic over-the-counter product.
Those situations may look completely different, but they share one thing:
Someone needs access to a health resource.
By expanding the variety of supplies available, QNT can use the same low-barrier model to address more of those needs.
Privacy Without Assumptions
Having a broad selection of products also provides another important benefit: privacy.
When someone walks up to the Community Health Vending Machine, there is no way to know what they are there to get.
They might need cold medicine.
They might be getting an HIV self-test.
They might need aspirin, menstrual supplies, a safer-sex kit, first-aid supplies, or another wellness product.
And nobody needs to know.
