QNT’s Community Health Vending Machine Is Making an Impact
When Qutekcak Native Tribe launched its Community Health Vending Machine, the goal was simple: remove barriers and make essential health, wellness, prevention, and harm-reduction resources easier for people in our community to access.
Now, the numbers are showing just how much that access matters.
From May 14 through September 1, 2026, the Community Health Vending Machine successfully distributed 536 free health and wellness products.
Even more encouraging, usage continued to grow throughout the summer.
In May, 105 products were successfully distributed. That increased to 126 in June, 145 in July, and 157 in August.
That represents an increase of nearly 50% in monthly usage from May to August.
What Is Our Community Using?
The 536 successful distributions included:

These numbers help QNT understand not only how often the machine is being used, but which resources our community is reaching for most often.
Prevention Is Happening Here
Some of the numbers tell an especially important public-health story.
The machine distributed 62 naloxone kits, making an overdose-reversal resource available directly within the community.
Community members also accessed 48 fentanyl and xylazine test kits, providing tools that can help people make more informed and safer decisions.
Another 57 safer-sex kits, including non-latex options, were distributed, along with 21 HIV self-test kits.
Medication safety has also been a significant part of the machine's use. A combined 87 medication-safety and disposal products were distributed through prescription medication lock bottles, Deterra medication destroyers, and drug-disposal kits.
These aren't just products leaving a vending machine.
They are prevention tools entering our community.
Why Does Easy Access Matter?
Feedback collected through the vending machine helps us understand why people choose to use it.
Responses have included reasons such as easier access than other services, increased privacy, availability when other services are closed, needing supplies immediately, and difficulty obtaining the supplies elsewhere.
That is exactly the kind of barrier this project was designed to reduce.
Not everyone can make an appointment during regular business hours. Not everyone has transportation. Some people may feel uncomfortable asking another person for a particular health product. Sometimes someone simply needs something right now.
The Community Health Vending Machine creates another option.
There is no appointment to schedule and no need to explain why you need a particular resource.
You simply have access.
536 Resources—and 536 Opportunities
For Qutekcak Native Tribe, 536 successful distributions are more than a number on a report.
Each represents an opportunity.
An opportunity to prevent an overdose.
An opportunity to safely store medication.
An opportunity to know your HIV status.
An opportunity to reduce potential exposure to fentanyl or xylazine.
An opportunity to practice safer sex.
An opportunity to care for a wound.
An opportunity to meet a basic hygiene need.
Most importantly, it represents 536 times a health or wellness resource was placed directly into the hands of someone in our community.
As QNT continues monitoring usage, the data will help us better understand what our community needs and guide how we stock and expand the machine moving forward.
The first few months have already taught us something important:
When health resources are accessible, people use them.
And that is exactly why this project exists.
